In 1994, South Africa was preparing for its first ever free election for all races and citizens. In the frenzy of the unbanning of political parties, the freeing of political struggle-hero Nelson Mandela and negotiations between the apartheid government and the African National Congress (ANC) was most notable.
Preparations for the election included mass rallies and general jubilations. The ANC won the elections and Nelson Mandela was elected as the first-ever black president of South Africa. He ushered South Africa into a new dawn of democracy and gave citizens a sense of hope and prosperity.
“No single person can liberate a country. You can only liberate a country if you act as a collective.” ~ Nelson Mandela
