When Nelson Mandela was elected the first democratic President of South Africa in 1994, the world rejoiced.

South Africa was ushered into a new age of freedom and prosperity under the leadership of the African National Congress (ANC).

The ANC campaigned for democracy and equal rights for all with Madiba leading the noble cause. In this image, a joyous Nelson Mandela casts his first ever vote in South Africa’s first democratic elections.

The election was held on April 27, 1994. Nelson Mandela cast his vote at Inanda, KwaZulu-Natal. This all inclusive election was one of the biggest life changing moments in South African history.
