On the 26th February 1990, Nelson Mandela invited Scott MacLeod to his home to chat about his time in prison.

Mandela at the age of 72, moved South Africa from its eternal race conflict to its hopeful dawning of racial reconciliation, in the span of only a year.

Q. One of the first things you said was that you were not a prophet. Do people expect too much from you? - Scott Macleod

A. Well, I don't think so, although I felt the necessity of warning them that no individual can solve the enormous problems that face us. It is a collective effort that will enable us to solve [our] problems. - Nelson Mandela

Q. When will blacks be free in this country? - Scott Macleod

A. I am no prophet. I cannot say. - Nelson Mandela

“To go to prison because of your convictions and be prepared to suffer for what you believe in, is something worthwhile.” ~ Nelson Mandela
