People from all different walks of life gathered together in Bloemfontein on January 8th 1912 to form the African National Congress (ANC).

The ANC has been an enormous force against oppression and racism, resisting and leading the battle against the apartheid regime.

The ANC helped give thousands of people a voice in a time where they were voiceless. As seen in the image, young South Africans joined in solidarity at an election campaign party rally for ANC candidate Nelson Mandela.

The enthused crowd is seen carrying posters stating ‘Mandela for President’. This rally was held at the First National Bank Stadium near Soweto.

“Poverty is not an accident. Like slavery and apartheid, it is man-made and can be removed by the actions of human beings.” ~ Nelson Mandela
