Nelson Mandela with Winnie Mandela

Winnie and Nelson Mandela were married for 38 years and saw their efforts to ensure freedom for all in South Africa come to life when Mandela was elected president in 1994.

Madiba and Winnie were married on the 14 June 1958 and had two daughters, Zenani (born in February 1959) and Zindziswa (born in December 1960) before he was arrested in 1962.

After Mandela was released from prison in 1990, Winnie was at his side as he attended countless rallies, events and travelled worldwide to promote peace for South Africa and campaign for the African National Congress. Although their marriage did not last, they still shared a deep history of love, affection, and commitment.

“We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in your hands to make a difference.”~Nelson Mandela
