Madiba Greets Children in Boipatong

Madiba greets children in Boipatong.

While campaigning, Mandela would often interact with children. He believed that the youth was the future of the country and helped shape many young South Africans minds on peace, perseverance and equality for all.

He initiated charities that helped kids with HIV/Aids, and took an interest in children when he saw them at rallies, as he enjoyed interacting with the youth at events.

He was a huge inspirational figure that was respected by citizens of all ages in South Africa. Whether Madiba signed an autograph or smiled thoughtfully, he made a profound impact on South African youth.

Boipatong was an informal settlement near the industrial city of Vereeniging in Gauteng. It was the place of a massacre of 45 people in 1992. It was suggested that the police and the National Party government was involved and it derailed negotiations during the CODESA meetings.
