Madiba celebrates his 72nd birthday with children at a creche in Orlando West

Nelson Mandela celebrated his 72nd birthday in 1990, at a creche in Orlando West surrounded by little, smiling faces.

Madiba loved children and believed they were the future of South Africa. In 1995 Mandela established the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund to which he donated a portion of his salary throughout his term in office.

The fund strives to, “To give voice and dignity to the African child by building a rights-based movement”

Nelson Mandela once said, “Give a child love, laughter and peace.”

"One cannot be prepared for something while secretly believing it will not happen" ~ Nelson Mandela
