The South African elections in 1994 was nothing like ever before. Nelson Mandela after his incarceration for 27 years comes forward to deliver his civilised debate.
F. W. de Klerk would be part of Mandela’s coalition even if he lost the election, making him the first white man serving under the first black president.
'I think we are a shining example to the whole world of people drawn from different racial groups who have a common loyalty to their country.’ said Nelson Mandela.
In spite of my criticism of de Klerk, sir,' he said, turning to his rival, 'you are one of those I rely upon to face these problems together.' 'Thank you for those kind words, Mr Mandela...we are working together for national reconciliation.'
“If you want to make peace with your enemy, you have to work with your enemy. Then he becomes your partner.” ~ Nelson Mandela
