Membership of the Seedling Growers’ Association of South Africa (SGASA) is open to nurserymen and partners of the seedling growers’ industry.
There are three Seedling Growers' Association of South Africa membership categories: growers’ membership, supplier’s membership and a special membership. Growers’ membership supports nurseries growing seedlings in individual cell containers. Supplier’s membership accommodates suppliers of goods and services to the seedling growing industry and the special membership is meant for educational institutions. Each Seedling Growers' Association of South Africa membership has a specific membership fee that is calculated according to the membership type and the nursery and/or polystyrene/plastic tray capacity.
SGASA’s nurserymen, members and potential members should be aware of their responsibility to the association and the seedling growing industry upon signing the membership application. These responsibilities include ensuring adequate maintenance, neat appearance and that the state of nurseries are hygienic. Crops with potential disease and weeds, which carry insects and other diseases, in and around nurseries are to be removed and monitored. Nurserymen and SGASA members are to avoid selling diseased or aged seedlings as it will ruin the industry’s reputation and professionalism.
Seedling Growers' Association of South Africa members are to support each other and actively participate in the association’s affairs in order to create symbiotic relationships that will benefit the whole industry in the long run. Nurserymen and members are to maintain efficiency in seed sowing, nursery management and customer engagement and they are to avoid excess or suspicious seeds or chemicals, unsustainable and ecologically harmful farming practices and destructive business practices by marketing products in a way that is not economically healthy for the association or the industry.
