Game Drives

Each wildlife safari is conducted on specialised 4x4 safari vehicles. The game rangers take requests from guests to personalise the experience. The game drives include a personal game ranger for every 6-10 people. Watch out for lion, giraffe, rhino and elephants.

Born Free Big Cats Sanctuary

Besides wildlife viewing at Shamwari Game Reserve, you can pay a visit to the Born Free Foundation which is home to big cats that have been rescued from captivity to promote the conservation of these magnificent felines.

Birding

A myriad of birds can be spotted at Shamwari Game Reserve. The area is renowned for having a large population of raptors, waterbirds and other colorful chirpers. Among the birds that are frequently spotted are Black Harriers, Pale Chanting Goshawks, Black-shouldered kites, Fish eagles, Bokmakierie, Hoopoes, African Darters, Malachite Kingfishers and Spoonbills. The gardens are also alive with Greater Double-collared Sunbirds, Cape Robin-Chats and the Southern Boubou.

Bush Walking Safaris

Safety precautions are taken before game walking safaris at Eagles Crag Lodge. Each walk is guided by an experienced and professional game ranger. The guided walks are a chance to venture on up close to the different species of fauna and flora. A profusion of birds can be observed, as well as an array of plantlife can be studied, and wildlife spoor that can be tracked.

Kids Activities

Along with Wildlife viewing at Shamwari Game Reserve there are plenty of indoor and outdoor activities for children to enjoy. Under the supervision of the friendly and attentive staff, kids can delight in scrapbooking, puzzles, DVDs, reading and board games. Special activities at the Born Free Foundation Big Cat Rescue Centre are strictly conducted under parental supervision.
