The South African Subtropical Growers’ Association (Subtrop) supports and promotes the cultivation, marketing and distribution of avocados, mangoes and litchis in South Africa.

Services offered to its member associations SAAGA, SAMGA and SALGA include management and administration, the provision of market-related, technical and economic information, active facilitation of market access initiatives within the subtropical fruit industry, organisation of ongoing research as well as the liaison between members and government and with relevant industry institutions.

The three associated members of Subtrop, in turn, offer their members similar services with a focus on promotion and marketing, setting industry standards, collection and distribution of information and technical assistance for farmers.

The South African Subtropical Growers’ Association (Subtrop) is actively involved in initiatives to encourage transformation in the agricultural sector through support and training. Exceptional examples of these initiatives are The Subtrop Transformation Summit, the Lindsey Milne Bursary scheme, founded to assist prospective students in the Subtropical fruit industry, training of agricultural extension officers and coordinating various study groups.

Funding for the activities of The South African Subtropical Growers’ Association (Subtrop) and its member associations are procured predominantly through grower members by collecting local and export market sale levies.

The South African Subtropical Growers’ Association (Subtrop) also publishes articles written by industry experts that focus on the cultivation, production, market trends and export statistics of avocados, litchis and mangoes.
