A short 20 minute drive from Plettenberg Bay on the Garden Route
Game drives in open 4x4 vehicles
Safaris on horseback
Ample bird and wild game species
Self catering and family-friendly accommodation
The Western Cape Province is often overlooked when it comes to safaris, as many people flock to the Kruger Park. Plettenberg Bay Game Reserve is ideally set along the Garden Route, which offers a scenic journey will plenty little dorpies (towns) to capture your imagination. Down here, there is an ideal mix of beach and bush, without the need to transverse challenging roads or organise those tiny charter planes.
While the tourists are competing with each other for availability and animal sightings in the Kruger, this Game Reserve on the Garden Route offers an undisturbed natural environment that is laden with birds and wildlife. The self catering and family friendly accommodation is also much kinder on the budget. You can dabble in some bird watching, picnics and 4x4 game drives, and there is even the option to do a safari on horseback, which is not common in most of the South African reserves.
Plettenberg Bay is only 20 minutes away, and offers you something that the Kruger doesn't have - whales. Southern right whales arrive around June to November, while the migratory humpback whales arrive with their calves in early November and stay until the end of February.
