Plettenberg Bay, Western Cape

At Plettenberg Bay Game Reserve you can get the full experience of this 2,200 hectare reserve, which sits at the foothills of the Tsitsikamma Mountains.

Game Drives

On these two hour game drives in 4x4 open safari vehicles, one thing you won't see are people in other vehicles crowding around the animals. What you will see is South Africa’s famous Big 5, with the recent arrival of elephants. You will also encounter various species of antelope, giraffe, zebra, hippo and crocodiles.

Birding and Picnics

Pack your picnic basket and head out into the wilderness. Here you can spend your day relaxing at some of the picnic spots near to the camp. While you explore the area nearby quietly on foot, you will encounter some of the local birdlife as well as are the smaller buck that often wander through the camp. Birds of Eden is the world's largest free flight aviary and bird sanctuary.

Horseback Safaris

If you are feeling a little more adventurous at Plettenberg Bay Game Reserve, you can always try a safari on horseback. Kids over 12 years of age can also join in for this activity. These safaris last 2 hours and allow a more peaceful experience within the reserve as opposed to ambling along on a 4x4 vehicle. If you do have smaller children, there is a babysitting service available.

Whale Watching

This Game Reserve on the Garden Route is ideally situated near the coast. You can make the most of the local beaches and enjoy some fresh seafood in towns such as Plettenberg Bay. 

You can also do some whale watching. These huge beasts are clearly visible for some spectacular shore and cliff based whale watching, especially from mid May to February. Southern right whales are seen from June to November, the migratory humpback whales arrive with their calves early November and stay until the end of February, then again during May and June.
