After Nelson Mandela was released from prison in 1990, he immediately started campaigning for the African National Congress (ANC) and attended political rallies and events where he could address thousands of ANC supporters.
He travelled the world on a Freedom tour to campaign for the ANC and a better South Africa. He and comrades such as Cyril Ramaphosa and Walter Sisulu would campaign for equal rights, freedom and a safe South Africa for all.
The National government negotiated with the ANC to transition peacefully from apartheid to democracy, which Madiba stood for. Pictured is Mandela delivering a press statement to the world prior to the 1994 elections.
"We pledge ourselves to liberate all our people from the continuing bondage of poverty, deprivation, suffering, gender and other discrimination." ~ Nelson Mandela
