Experience Magic - Activities
Madikwe Game Reserve, North West Province

Madikwe Safari Lodge offers 2 game drives daily, and among the wildlife seen at this accommodation in the Madikwe Game Reserve include the Big Five, cheetah and the African wild dog.

Game Drives

Wild dogs are a signature species of the reserve and as they are endangered, this is an exceptionally special sighting for visitors. There are no more than 8 people at a time on 4x4 vehicles, to maintain the intimacy of sightings.

Tea and coffee is served on the morning drives, which goes down well on those crisp African mornings as the sun rises to greet the day ahead. On the evening game drive, take some time to watch the sun sink below the horizon with canapes and a sundowner drink in hand. A great way to create a memorable safari holiday.

Bush Walks

Bush walks are a unique way to explore the wilderness at Madikwe Safari Lodge. Professional guides will lead you into the heart of the bush, but will make sure to take the necessary safety precautions on each adventure. The spectacular landscapes of the Madikwe Reserve can be observed while tracking animal scat and spoor, searching for birds and insects, and learning about the medicinal uses of plants.

Take note the bush is denser in summer (rainy season), and animals may therefore be more difficult to see. As for avid birders, the best bird-watching period is from October to April. Bush walks are restricted to those that are 16 years of age and over.

Other Activities

During your stay at any of the three lodges at Madikwe Safari Lodge, you have the opportunity to learn more about the South African night sky with an astronomy lecture. Look for the Southern Cross and see how clear and close the Milky Way appears.

Wildlife lectures are also available whilst you are in camp. Expand your knowledge and learn more about the ecology of Madikwe.

Children on Safari

A kid’s menu of activities have been designed to keep younger guests occupied and engaged. The Eco House offers painting, drawing, arts and crafts. They can also experience some of the live specimens from the reserve in a bush orientation, bug CSI, dung tracking, baking in the kitchen, making pizzas in the boma, star gazing, and enjoy the games nights.

Children over the age of five are welcome on the late morning family safari drives.

Spa and Wellness

This accommodation in the Madikwe Game Reserve awards you with the option of indulging in a spa treatment in the privacy of your suite. All products used are 100% organic and some of the treatments you can choose from include massages, facials, reflexology, hand and foot treatments and even a specialised treatment for kids.

Bush Dining

Indulge in a bush breakfast, where you can relax in the heart of the South African bush with a fully laden table complete with crisp napkins and tablecloth. Arrange with your guide for an extended game drive and take a picnic lunch with you. Sit in a shady spot and share your meal, as you continue to gaze at the wildlife surrounding you.

Dine al fresco, under the brilliant night sky, where a blanket of stars illuminate your table. Firelight dinners under the stars make for a lovely romantic meal. Add some fine South African wine, and good conversation for the memories to last a lifetime.
