Thakadu is the word used by Tswana people for the aardvark, a shy animal that loves burrowing for insects such as termites.
This is but one of the smaller fascinating mammals like the Mongoose, Civet, hyrax (Dassies) and Porcupines that are often overlooked. The Madikwe reserve is renowned for having the Big 5 as well as wild dog and cheetah. Elephant and buffalo are likely to be seen not in 1’s and 2’s but in herds. The position of the camp on the Marico River allows you to see animals coming to quench their thirst – armchair viewing from the bar and pool area between game drives is the best way to spend a lazy day. This is truly an amazing safari experience.
ame drives with highly experienced Thakadu guides are a must in the early morning as well as in the late afternoon, leading into dusk. Children under 6 are not allowed on the main game safaris, but can do a shorter drive after breakfast so that they can also enjoy the wildlife experience.
