Members of Cape Flora SA are individuals with a working interest in the indigenous flower industry, who are entitled to certain benefits.
Members of the indigenous flower industry follow various rules set out by Cape Flora SA, such as the Best Practice Guidelines and Certification Guide for the SA Protea Industry, which are laid out in the Cape Flora SA Code of Conduct. They also adhere to the Summary of Good Practice Guidelines for the Sustainable Use of Indigenous Wild Fynbos Resources, which are laid out in the Sustainable Harvesting Code of Practice.
Furthermore, Cape Flora guides its members through the legislation set around the indigenous flower industry to protect natural resources and encourage sustainable farming practices. They outline the Dispensation Procedure, which is the application of exporters to the Department of Agriculture. Veld Harvesting is also explained, which requires a person who wishes to harvest protected fynbos on private land to apply for a licence and certificate of registration from Cape Nature. A protected flora lease agreement and information document is available on the Cape Flora SA website.
Members can access the latest notifications and data of Cape Flora SA, such as upcoming training workshops and conferences, and they receive a custom quarter-yearly Cape Flora SA newsletter. Field days are also provided for members to take part in. Exporters receive new business channel opportunities accumulated at international exhibitions, which are also of benefit to the producer.
