South Africa is fast becoming an international boardsailing and kitesurfing mecca. There are a few spots along the West Coast and Eastern coastline that is perfect for catching a windy wave. Kite surfers travel from all over the world to capture the energy of the Cape’s southerly winds, so places like Bloubergstrand and Big Bay are local gems.

The cold water offers a refreshing ride, and the waves are suited to both novice and advanced board sailors. If you’re a bit nervous for your first time, consult with one of the many adventure companies in the Blouberg area that specialise in boardsailing and kitesurfing lessons.

Up the West Coast, Langebaan is another hotspot that local avid board sailors know and love. It’s internationally recognised as being one of the top boardsailing venues in the world, so you won’t be disappointed. Head out for a calm morning ride or sunset adventure.

Towards the eastern coastline, the Garden Route has near-perfect boardsailing conditions along the scenic coastal road. Witsand, situated along the Breede River, has a stretch of flatwater and waves further out with nice winds for kitesurfing. Sedgefield, located close to Knysna has massive swells that will entice more advance board sailors. Jeffrey’s Bay and St. Francis Bay are also awesome spots with enough wind and waves for any and all water sports.

Port Elizabeth, aptly known as the ‘windy city’, has phenomenal waves and wind that will make any board sailor ready to jump into the water and get in on the action. Sardinia Bay promises wilder waves for those more advanced.

Whether you are just getting into the sport or looking to enhance your skills, South Africa has some of the best waves for adrenaline-pumping boardsailing.
