Sea Kayaking around Camps Bay, Cape Town.

Sea kayaking is the ideal craft for the adrenaline junkie who wishes to challenge the water and the beginner who simply wishes to float out in a calm bay and see the scenery from another perspective.

There are no real, long sea kayaking expeditions in South Africa, but there are a number of fun day trips, many of which offer brilliant sightings of birds, seals, dolphins or whales on your South African holiday.

From a one hour paddle along a protected bay to expeditions covering thousands of km's, this is the great diversity that sea kayaking offers.

On the West Coast, Cape Town is the hub of kayaking adventures. Seaside towns like Simon’s Town, Camps Bay, Kalk Bay and Noordhoek have calm waters that are perfect for a paddle. Expect to see marine life such as seals, schools of tuna and African penguins on the beach.

The Eastern Cape, Garden Route and Wild Coast also have fantastic spots, like Kleinmond, Port Elizabeth and Morgan Bay. It’s a scenic environment, so you’ll have fantastic views of mountain ranges, lush greenery and tranquil beaches.

KwaZulu-Natal is ideal for a combination of oceanic activities, so after your kayak, you can go snorkeling and discover the coral reefs and beautiful species that thrive in the warm waters of the Indian ocean. You’ll see dolphins, various species of sharks and maybe even a whale or two!

Sea kayaking is an opportunity not to be missed and it is definitely something to remember!
