Safari Like no Other - Activities
Amakhala Game Reserve, Eastern Cape

The Amakhala Reserve, home to the Big 5, which share the reserve with many different kinds of antelope, as well as zebra, spotted hyenas and cheetah.

Game Viewing

It’s a bird watcher’s paradise with viewing from the Bushmans River as well as bird spotting on guided walks.

An environmental programme to train rangers ensures that top class guides are available to explore the reserve and tell you all about the history, ecology and habits of the resident animals.

Game drives into the reserve with accomplished guides take place in the morning, afternoon and evening. A late afternoon boat cruise on the Bushman’s River provides a different view of the riverine forest area, with the possibility of seeing buck and birdlife not viewed on the game drives. There’s also the option of relaxing on the viewing deck of your suite or at the pool to see what game comes to drink at the waterhole.

Bush Dining

Guests can choose a private candle light dinner or a fireside bush braai in the boma, but either way be assured of the highest quality of food and service, accompanied by delicious South African wines. Special requests regarding meals are accommodated – vegetarian, Halaal and lunch boxes for daily outings.

High tea is served in the afternoon on the deck overlooking the waterhole. High tea with views of warthog and buffalo are a truly South African experience!

Specialised Activities

In addition to the 3 daily Game Drives through the Amakhala Reserve a number of activities can be booked in the surrounding area. Horseback Trails and boat cruising on the Bushman’s River are different ways to view game and birds.

Guided walks have the advantage of being able to examine plants, flowers & seeds – a different view of the ecology and interests of this reserve.

Catch and release fishing on the riverbank with a ranger is possible during the day. For those not inclined to be so active, spa treatments in the privacy of your suite or on the deck is a relaxing alternative. Archery instruction would be another challenge of skills available between game drives.

Stargazing with the guidance of knowledgeable rangers is a further activity to experience – very different to star gazing in the presence of city lights!

Small conferences, team building and weddings can also be arranged.
