Hlosi Game lodge is fenced to keep the big animals out, but game such as Giraffe and zebra can often be safely seen from the lodge, tents and pool area.
To see the popular Big 5, drives through the Amakhala Reserve with trained rangers provide the excitement of visiting South Africa. As there is plentiful game in this reserve one sees a variety of animals on each outing. In addition to the Big 5 there is a strong possibility of seeing cheetah, which are included in this conservation project.
A variety of antelope live here – some 16 species- and some of the more elusive animals such as hyena and the bat eared fox. With over 260 recorded species, birding is a joy in the Amakhala Reserve, and highly recommended for those new to the hobby!
Enjoy a gentle safari drifting down the river, a fantastic way to go bird watching and looking for more timid game such as bushbuck. Take you binoculars and bird book with, sit back with a sundowner in hand and watch the bush slowly drift on by.
At Hlosi Game Lodge, you can go on a night drive, searching by flashlight for the many nocturnal creatures that inhabit the reserve. Watch the amber glow of eyes in the bush, perfectly hidden until illuminated as you cruise past.
Take a Cosmic Safari with your ranger, explaining the Southern Africa constellations to you. Or, take a guided bush walk examining the smaller creatures that you find along the way. Follow the spoor and droppings of the game that you have seen and learn more about their behaviour from your guide.
For the ultimate in relaxation be pampered with a spa therapy, alternatively pick up a fishing rod and head to the river.
Delicious South African styled cuisine is served in the main lodge. Throughout the day top quality breakfasts, brunches and high teas are available, as well as kids menus.
Snacks and beverages are supplied on game drives.
Dinners are usually a three-course affair served in the lodge, next to the fire. Alternatively, an informal barbeque (braai) under the stars is a fantastic way to view the constellations and enjoy the night sounds of the bush.
Hlosi Game Lodge not only welcomes families, but also has an extensive children’s Safari programme, called Cubs on Safari. Children between the ages of 3 - 12 can join the cubs on safari programme, which is run by a dedicated child co-ordinator. The cubs enjoy arts and crafts, puppet making and face painting, plus educational games indoors and outdoors. For younger kids there are babysitters available.
Depending on the number and age of the children visiting, a programme runs from 9.30 to 4pm in the care of a child coordinator. Activities are arranged according to age of the children and weather conditions.
Children 6 yrs and over are automatically included in the safari activities. Children between 3 to 5 are included at the discretion of the ranger. However, a private family car can be booked, keeping the family together.
