Uninterrupted nature, with majestic mountains and a verdant patchwork of dairy farms bordering onto Lesotho, is probably as good a description as one can give of this region in Kwazulu-Natal.
It will, however, fall way short of seeing Underberg and Himeville with your own eyes, as these two down-to-earth rural dorps are sure to delight you in dozens of ways. Both towns bask in the glorious surrounds of the southern Drakensberg and retains that feeling of being a bit ‘off the beaten track’.
As the countryside rise towards the Lesotho Highlands, you will find yourself revelling in a sub-alpine landscape, mostly consisting of rolling grassland and dramatic buttresses spiking against a clear blue sky. Verdant valleys are dotted with an abundance of crystal-clear lakes and fast-flowing mountain streams, with the climate consisting of moderate summers with thunderstorms and sub-zero winters fraught with frost and snow.
