South African Avocado Growers Association Membership Benefits

Members of SAAGA are able to access internationally renowned avocado production and post-harvest research, which is funded by the association.

SAAGA’s research projects are evaluated annually to ensure members have access to relevant and current generated information.

Members are granted access to the research results that are presented at SAAGA’s annual research symposium and published in the SAAGA yearbook.

SAAGA’s membership to other associations such as the Subtropical Growers’ Association (Subtrop), extends the access to SAAGA’s members, therefore providing its members with administrative information, technical services and access to officers in all the major production regions and farm visits may be carried out on request. Technical information is available through newsletters and in the member’s section of the South African Avocado Growers’ Association website.

The SAAGA board, which is democratically elected by the members across various regions, ensures the organisation’s levies are used efficiently to assist avocado growers in maintaining profitable operations.

There are study groups that the organisation holds across different regions which provides members and growers access to learn from each other and industry experts. Through cooperation with all the major countries that supply avocado, including exporters and packhouses, SAAGA is able to provide its members with information that enables growers, exporters, packers and importers to plan exports to avoid market crashes. Without this information, standard growth in the avocado market would not happen.
