The South African Sugar Association (SASA) supports the goals of the sugar industry, its partners and the cane growing and manufacturing sectors at large.
These support services are offered directly to the growers’ section, which is made up of the non-profit South African Cane Growers’ Association and the South African Farmers’ Development Association; and support services are also offered directly to the South African Sugar Millers’ Association.
SASA’s support services include the detailing of administration and legislation with regard to industry affairs, maintenance and the growth of the South African sugar market, as well as the management of the export marketing of raw bulk sugar. In addition, it also manages industry relationships with external partners and handles the development of policy regarding the land reform service.
Research regarding crop management and sugarcane farming are also undertaken by SASA to provide the partners, growers and manufacturers in the industry with sustainable and accurate information for quality harvests. Agricultural and engineering skills are also refined through research and training that is provided by local training centres which operate under the organisation. The South African Sugar Association also serves to audit cane payment through the Cane Testing Service and manages the industry’s finance and treasury functions.
