RegenAG SA is an education and advocacy organisation that aims to stop the catastrophic consequences of industrial agriculture by helping farmers and consumers to switch to regenerative agriculture.
To achieve this, the organisation educates farmers and consumers on the benefits of regenerative agriculture and provides an ecosystem for collaboration, research and knowledge transfer so that farmers, consumers and retailers have access to support and are aware of the latest findings and news about this production approach.
The Regenerative Agriculture Association of South Africa also lobbies the farming approach with the government, because of its ability to reduce poverty, improve food security and uplift rural communities.
RegenAG SA assists with the development of regenerative agriculture markets by linking consumers with farmers. The organisation also brings transparency to the market through its collaboration with Integra Trust, which has developed a rating system that aims to determine the degree to which a farmer complies with regenerative farming principles. The cost of audits are envisioned to be substantially lower than for organic certification.
RegenAG SA is also in the process of trying to raise funds to help farmers convert to regenerative farming. Conversion usually results in crop reduction during the first three to five years, after which yields tend to stabilise. Regenerative farming systems, however, are generally much more resilient than industrial systems, especially when it comes to pest, disease and climate associated risks.
Farmers are also less dependent on chemical fertilisers to support production.
