Bruce Little has an extensive range of beautiful sculptures that transports clients into the magical world of the South African bushveld. An image can inspire an idea for a sculpture or simply flesh out a concept that you are developing. Little uses photographic references for concepts and then sculpts mainly from an instinctive knowledge of his subject. He will often start with a smaller ‘Maquette’ version of the final sculpture in modelling clay, which is his preferred medium.
This often requires the construction of an armature to give the clay sufficient strength, particularly in a life-size sculpture. He focuses on revealing the musculature of his subjects, while retaining a surface texture.
Little’s work connects its viewers to both nature and the African continent in inspiring ways. Each sculpture boasts a unique and artistic flair, as well as its own name. ‘Agility’ captures the stillness of a cheetah on the prowl, while ‘Common Objective’ shows a pack of African wild dogs on the run.
‘Regal’ showcases the physique of an eagle, and ‘Drinking Leopard’ gives insight into the leopard’s routine of slowly lapping up water at a drinking hole.
Other wildlife that Little enjoys to sculpt are buffaloes in motion, the jump of a frog, baby rhinos and hippos, as well as the powerful lion and the playful baboon.
