Members of the South African Cherry Growers’ Association (HORTGRO-Cherries) are given access to research encompassing the production, packaging and marketing of cherries.
This research is tailored to the variety of cherry types under HORTGRO-Cherries, such as: Bing, Blackstar, Royal dawn and Sandra rose cherries to name a few.
Members will be provided with data about the origin of each cherry, growth habit, harvest cycle, which pollinators to use and the cherries specific fruit characteristics such as texture, taste and colour.
This information will armour cherry growers and producers with the specific and necessary knowledge to increase the quality of their crop.
Members also receive statistics and data from both local and international cherry growing markets in order to aid with the successful marketing and distribution of cherries according to the quality of the harvested cherries. Members are also able to relay concerns through the association to the government and state officials for solutions.
The South Africsn Cherry Growers’ Association works in accordance with the relevant state bodies in order to ensure proper policies regarding the cherry industry are put in place in order to promote the interest of the organisations’ members who are made up of local cherry producers.
The umbrella organisation for various horticultural industry organisations, HOTGRO, also extends its benefits, relationships and research to the members of the South African Cherry Growers’ Association.
