The South African Cherry Growers’ Association (HORTGRO-Cherries) is a body corporate that exists independent of its members.
It is made up of primary cherry growers, cherry producers and special interest groups. These specialist interest groups are defined from time-to-time, depending on the minimum requirement the association puts in place at any given time.
However, ultimately any bona fide cherry grower, special interest group or individual with a keen interest in cherry production and the cherry industry, is eligible to join the association as a member.
The South African Cherry Growers’ Association will grant the membership upon payment of an initial joining fee and once an agreement and payment has been put in place regarding the annual membership.
The amount of both fees is determined by the association, and the duration of the membership payment is also decided by the association, annually, during the general meeting. Once members have joined HORTGRO-Cherries, they will be voting rights at all the meetings held by the association.
It is important to note that the HORTGRO-Cherries Executive Committee reserves the right to accept or reject membership applications at their discretion, with or without assigning reason for the decision.
However, there appears to be no limit to the number of times application may be placed for membership. Once a member of the South African Cherry Growers’ Association, access will be granted to all the organisation, and organisation partners, membership benefits.
