After returning to the camp, you depart for the small fishing village of Doringbaai. The town lies on the west coast next to the icy Atlantic Ocean and activities in the area include fishing, spearfishing and snorkelling (permits required), kayaking, mountain biking and exploring the rock pools along the beach.
This solitary stretch of coastline also has a hiking trail along the beach between Doringbaai and Strandfontein and nearby Bamboesbaai and is known for its good surfing conditions.
The town was established in 1925 when the North Bay Canning Company built a crayfish-packing factory. The once dilapidated crayfish factory now hosts a wine cellar and tasting locale for the Fryer’s Cove wines.
