Throughout the Robertson Valley, adventure-seekers will find various Hiking and Mountain Biking trails, as well as some Abseiling and Kloofing opportunities. If you are lodging in Ashton, however, the focus is mostly on good cranking routes that will satisfy both beginners and experienced riders alike.
There is a 29 km route that starts in Station Road in Ashton along a hard farm road surface and just over 5 km of tar. This is a moderately easy route that offers beautiful scenery.
To enjoy the views of this beautiful part of the world up higher, follow road markers to the panoramic vista viewpoint just outside of town with your bike, around the surrounding foothills of Ashton, through some fine examples of local fynbos.
If you want to venture out further, the two nearest towns to Ashton are Montagu and Robertson or Bonnievale to the east. Although challenging, a crank to the next town will be worth it for the views of vineyards, mountain vistas and of course, the Breede River. Be sure to pack lots of water and sunscreen, as the temperature can soar out there.
