If you’re not a fan of crowds, you’ll love Orpen Rest Camp in Kruger Park. It’s one of the smaller, more intimate camps in the Kruger National Park where you can spend more time in the company of nature.
Located close to the Orpen Gate entrance, it’s a particularly good place to stay if you need to enter or exit the park easily. The staff are helpful, and the game viewing can best be described as outstanding — there’s even a wildlife-rich waterhole close to camp.
Expert-led game drives and bush walks depart daily, but you barely need to venture beyond the camp perimeter to encounter ‘the locals’. Night-time is oh-so-rewarding with honey badgers and genets dropping in to say ‘hi’ while hyenas patrol the outer fence.
And while there’s no restaurant on-site at Orpen Rest Camp in Kruger Park, there is a small shop for stocking up on essential items, a sparkling swimming pool and plenty of well-placed picnic and braai areas to enjoy.
