There’s always some type of winged creature flittering above or around you in the Kruger National Park. With hundreds of birds species recorded here, and with a small waterhole located so close to camp, you’re guaranteed a plethora of sightings during your stay. From Mosque and Wire-tailed swallows, to Trumpeter Hornbills, you’ll truly be spoilt for choice!
Orpen Rest Camp offers that quintessential South African safari experience with twice-daily game drives and morning bush walks available. These are led by experienced tracker-guides who know all the hidden hideouts of birds and animals.
Giraffe, warthog and elephant are common in this region along with herds of zebra and wildebeest grazing along the Orpen-Satara road. The Timbavati River is a particularly good spot to see leopard, while the Rabelais Dam is the go-to for prides of lion.
If you’d prefer to connect with nature right from your front stoep, Orpen Rest Camp is just the place to do so. There is always something to catch your eye (or ear!) here, be it grunting honey badgers, or little families of mongoose skirting across the grounds. There are more than a few picnic areas on-site too, and a sparkling pool where you can continue birdwatching in between the pages of your latest book.
