SA Mushroom Farmers’ Association consists of members who are mostly mushroom growers and farmers, industry suppliers and trade alliances.
These members pay an annual membership fee that is used to fund the association’s research and educational activities.
SA Mushroom Farmers’ Association played host to the International Congress on the Science and Cultivation of Edible Mushrooms in 2008. Scientists, growers, researchers, suppliers, marketers, educators and partners usually flock to this prestigious event which showcases the latest in mushroom production and marketing technology from all the very best suppliers and farmers from around the globe.
Members of SA Mushroom Farmers’ Association are encouraged to share their knowledge with fellow growers and farmers, as the industry was notoriously competitive and closed-off. SA Mushroom Farmers’ Association aims to change that narrative by offering all members of the mushroom industry the chance to learn from each other and access global industry expertise and export markets.
Spawnrun is an annual publication that contains informative articles on mushroom farming and production, as well as recipes and outtakes from local mushroom experts. It also showcases industry suppliers, interviews with new mushroom farmers and upcoming events on the mushroom calendar. The chairperson of SA Mushroom Farmers’ Association also releases his annual report on the mushroom industry, and focuses on the year’s PR initiatives, as well as industry statistics, and comparisons between the previous years’ export value, local sales, farming methods and new varieties.
