This malaria-free reserve is a 23 000 hectare private concession at the foothills of the Waterberg Mountain and home to the Big 5 as well as a large variety of other animals.
Game Drives
Located within the Marakele National Park, Marataba is just 3.5 hours from Johannesburg. Twice-daily safari drives are conducted year round from the luxury lodge in the Marakele National Park under the expert guidance of friendly and knowledgeable guides. The early morning drives includes a coffee break while the late afternoon one will have you enjoy a tantalizing sundowner in the beautiful natural surrounds.
The predators within the park are used to the close proximity of vehicles and do not see them as a threat enabling the guides to get into a close proximity of some of Africa’s most remarkable animals. The photographic opportunities are absolutely amazing and will allow you to capture moments you can only dream of.
Water Safaris
Take a slow cruise on Python Dam, watching the sunrise as you listen to the dawn chorus and tick off the water birds from your bird list. A fabulous way to start the day, especially for the avid bird watcher. Look for the malachite king fishers, green back herons, painted snipes,Violet-eared Waxbill and African jacanas.
Alternatively set out around midday for your cruise, looking for the thirsty animals that come to the water's edge to quench their thirst. Keep your eyes peeled for water monitors, leopards, buffalo and kudus.

Family Safaris
Create lasting memories and a love for nature with your children as you go together on a family safari drive. Marataba Safari Lodge offers a range of safari activities for children, which include Bug CSI, dung tracking, plaster casting tracks and stargazing. The African bush can keep inquisitive youngsters entertained and expand their knowledge whilst having fun as a family.
Bush Dining
Three mouth-watering meals are served daily at the luxury lodge in the Marakele National Park. The chefs are famous for creating cuisine that appeals to a diverse palate whether it be meat lover, sweet tooth, vegetarian or a health fanatic.
Delight in bush dinners, set up in the wild, as you listen to the calls of the fish eagle. If the weather isn’t favourable for outside dining, meals are served in one of the Marataba Safari Lodge’s dining areas, with a roaring fire to keep you cosy.
The Marataba Safari Lodge proudly caters for a range of dietary preferences including vegetarian, gluten-free and even Banting! If you need a specific menu, all you have to do is let the lodge know prior to arrival and your dietary needs will be amply met.
