Outstanding Safari Experience - Activities
Madikwe Game Reserve, North West Province
The third and most blissful experience is to recline in luxury on the wooden deck of Tuningi Lodge and watch animals pass by on the way to drink at the waterhole.
Game Viewing
Tuningi offers 3 types of game viewing. Early morning drives and in the late afternoon as the sun sets are just perfect times to see game – rangers are able to drive off road in the quest to see how the Super Seven live. Game walks highlight little beings that one wouldn’t see from the safari vehicle – busy dung beetles, butterflies and medicinal foliage are but a few. Children under 16 are not able to participate in these walks, but do have their own special guided trips of exploration.
If you’re lucky you might see a majestic elephant pop its trunk into the rim flow pool for a drink! Game is plentiful in this reserve – the Big 5 as well as plentiful wild dog, and if you’re lucky, cheetah.
Best Time to Visit
October to April are the wetter and warmer months with spectacular African storms announced by the unforgettable smell of wet earth. May to September bring dry and cool weather. Remember to bring warm jackets as even in summer the late afternoon drives can have an unexpected chill.
Bush Dining
On arrival at Tuningi meals can be discussed with the world class chefs. They can plan for special dietary preference, preferred children’s mealtimes and food content. While fine dining and speciality wines are the order of the day, children are not neglected. They can be occupied creating meals with the chef in a separate boma - leaving parents to recapture romance with a candlelight dinner in the boma under the arms of an ancient fig tree, in the spacious stylish dining room or on your private deck.
Specialised Activities
Intimate weddings & small conferences can be custom designed by the Tuningi team to suit one's every need. After your wedding ceremony on the kopje, overlooking Madikwe reserve guests are served drinks and snacks in the boma, while the bridal photo shoot is taking place. Thereafter a sumptuous meal accompanied by the staff choir singing and dancing to welcome the bridal pair makes for unforgettable African memories.
Children on Safari
Children will never forget the Tuningi experience. Under 6’s have their own special 1 hour game drive after breakfast. They’ll get a workbook in which to tick off what they see, and a special surprise is in store for the child with the most ticks!
Other activities are available – the concept of this lodge is that children are welcome and have their own special experience. At the same time allowing parents to enjoy “adult time”, knowing the kids are safe and occupied with fun activities like T-shirt painting, building with clay, tracking, treasure hunts and cooking! Enough to make the adults jealous!
