Madiba Receives Visitors at His Home.

Nelson Mandela frequently received visitors at his home on the corner of Ngakane Streets and Vilakazi in Orlando West, Soweto. These visitors were friends, colleagues, African National Congress (ANC) supporters, religious leaders and political affiliates.

When Mandela met with important associates, the media would flock to his house to try and capture iconic moments. Peter Magubane was a friend and frequent guest at Madiba’s house and took many candid pictures of him with visitors.

Madiba loved meeting ordinary people and sharing stories of hope, perseverance, and freedom.

Pictured in the background is Cyril Ramaphosa, who was elected president of South Africa in February 2018. They worked closely together as ANC leaders, working to usher South Africa into a dawn of democracy.

“If wealth is a magnet, then poverty is a kind of repellent. Yet poverty often brings out the true generosity in others.” ~ Nelson Mandela
