At Mount Anderson Water Reserve, game drives will get you out into the fresh air and will allow you to get the full scope of the landscape.
On the upper grassland slopes you will be sure to spot herds of grey rhebuck, mountain reedbuck, jackals, caracal, eland, black wildebeest, zebra, eland and blesbuck. Keep an eye above you for the Malachite sunbird, spurfowl, Cape vulture, and keep an ear out for the unmistakable call of the African fish eagle.
Hiking and walking trails range from gentle river side ambles to a more challenging climbs. While out on foot with one of our experienced field guides, you will experience waterfalls, San rock art painting, ancient Pedi tribe ruins and relics of the gold mining era (1880s – 1920s). Walking along the grassland slopes will bring you into contact with palatable Rooigras and an abundance of of indigenous flower species. There are numerous trails at this Mpumalanga private game reserve that you are welcome to explore on your own steam.
Led on well-schooled mountain this activity is available for intermediate and experienced riders. Children and beginners will need to remain in the paddocks for safety. Compulsory protective riding hats are available for you to use.
There is very good fishing available at Mount Anderson Nature Reserve. The combination of weirs, lakes and river catchments provide the ideal opportunity to catch strong fighting rainbow trout whilst the quality and diversity of fishing ensures that all levels of fishermen. Fly-fishing rods and reels are available for use at Mount Anderson.
At Mount Anderson Water Reserve, mountain bikes are available for rent. Spectacular vistas and single track cycling paths, led by one of the cycling guides make this a must for anyone who enjoys biking. There are support vehicles and staff to help those unwilling to tackle the more challenging terrain.
Picnics at the lakes are extremely popular and always added into an itinerary at your leisure. Near the water, you can indulge in activities include a trying out the rowing boat, and of course swimming. There is even a zipline located at one of the main water areas.
