Mashishing, is a malaria free area in the Mpumalanga middleveld, on the Sterkspruit River, and is perfectly situated for exploring areas like Pilgrims Rest and Sabie. Mashishing’s fertile valley is a major agricultural and mining hub, but also offers an excellent portal to the culture, history and people from times gone by.
Mashishing itself has many fine old buildings, including the Voortrekker church (1851), an elegant Loreto Convent, a powder magazine (1890), the oldest school in Mpumalanga (1852) and a quaint red South African Republic post box.
Mashishing is known as the trout and coarse fishing centre of South Africa, with fishing facilities in both dams and rivers to suit every type of angler. This beautiful town and surroundings provide a great sense of peace and tranquillity for travellers to enjoy.
