Kruger to Canyons Route

Visit the Khamai Reptile Park and Herpetology Centre on the R527 between Hoedspruit and the Strijdom Tunnel where you can learn all about snakes and reptiles. You can explore the reptile enclosures on your own pace or go on an interactive tour for a more hands-on experience. You will be allowed to feed, touch, and photograph some of the more interesting reptiles and learn fascinating facts from the knowledgeable guides.

Learn more about silkworms at the Bombyx Mori Silk Farm. One of only two commercial silkworm farms in South Africa, the name refers to the Latin scientific name for the mulberry silk moth, which is farmed here to produce a very high quality silk. The silk is made into duvets and refined into hypoallergenic cosmetic products.

Explore the Blyde Dam on a boat trip for the whole family, with magnificent views of the Blyde River Canyon. You will have an opportunity to spot some of the many birds found in the area and a Hippo or two.

Go quad-biking to river rafting, or rock climbing at the Blyde Canyon Adventure Centre, or hike the canyon with Blyde River Canyon Hiking.

Learn more about South Africa’s endangered species at the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre, a unique project that conducts essential research on endangered species and provides the opportunity to view animals that have found a home here in their natural surroundings.

Go on a night drive and enjoy a bush braai in Kruger National Park. After a guided game drive you arrive in an open area where burning lanterns and fires welcome you. Sitting around an open fire, you listening to the sounds of the bushveld and the distant animals calling while your food is being prepared. A variety of game meat and sausage is on offer and drinks are also served. 

For the early risers, you can do a morning walking safari with an experienced guide. This is one of the most sought-after activities in Africa and allows you to get close and personal with nature and experience the sights and sounds of the African wilderness.

Enjoy a sunrise or sunset while cruising down the Olifants River. Cruise through the African bush and explore the abundance of wildlife and birds while enjoying a sundowner with friends.

For the more adventurous, Micro-light flights over the Kruger is a great way to spot game in the bush. You can let an experienced pilot take the controls, or learn to fly yourself if you want to. 

Horse-riding safaris are exceptionally popular throughout Africa providing an exciting addition to the many other safari activities on offer. There is just something special about riding on the back of a horse that connects you to nature.

Play golf at world-famous Hans Merensky Country Club. Share your experience with Giraffe, Hippo, Crocodiles and many other permanent residents. The 18 hole, Bob Grimsdell designed Par 72 Championship Golf course has been voted as one of the best walking courses in the country.

Visit Amarula Lapa, the home of Amarula Cream Liqueur. Go on a tour of the facility where you are shown how they farm the Marula fruit and process it into the world-famous liqueur before sitting back and enjoying it with ice.
