With over 500 bird species within this area, Komati River Chalets is an ideal location for bird enthusiasts.
The Komati River is no more than 50 metres from the River Chalets. Along the banks of the river, you can happily explore the forest areas that offer various pathways into the heart of the bush where you will be sure to get up close to various small animals, birds, indigenous trees and plants. Be on guard for those lurking crocs and grumpy hippos and please be cautious when walking.
Many of the birds are drawn to the water of the Komati and Olifants Rivers, which also contains various species of freshwater fish. The most famous being the Tiger Fish, which always puts up a bit of a fight. The river offers the angler some prime positions to cast their lines and possibly catch some Mozambique Bream (Blue Kurper), Red breasted bream, Mudfish, Catfish and even Carp. Remember to pack your binoculars and fishing tackle.
As Komati River Chalets is so close to the southern region of the Kruger National Park, half day and full day game drives into Kruger National Park is an easy feat. Take your pick from open or closed 4x4 vehicles as you take on the chance to view some of South Africa’s finest game. You could even opt for a night time drive as Crocodile Bridge Gate to the park is only located 12 kilometers away.
Another great option is heading off on a full day tour from Komati River Chalets into Mozambique for a tour of the capital city, Maputo. Stops on this adventure includes the famous colonial train station, the fish market, the city market and the 17th century Portuguese fort with plenty of delicious seafood! You could even opt for the day tour into Swaziland to explore this unspoilt countryside and enjoy a stop at Ingwenya Glass where you can watch the fascinating art of glassblowing.
