Your return journey starts at Upington and a long, but interesting drive awaits you. We suggest you stop for lunch at the die Blou Nartjie in Calvinia, en-route to your destination.
Calvinia is a classic Karoo dorpie that was founded in 1851. Situated at the foot of the Hantam Mountains in what is known as the Hantam Karoo, the original name of the region was 'Hantam' which originated from the Khoi word '!Han=ami', meaning 'the mountain where the red bulbs grow'.
You can go on a self-guided walking tour of the town to explore the heritage of the town. You can pick up a map and guide from the local tourism office. The tour will take you past a range of historic building including the Dutch Reformed Church, the Dorpshuis and Hantamhuis.
