This reserve lies within the southern part of the Hottentots Holland mountain range, some 90 kilometres southeast of Cape Town. It sits in the very heart of the Cape Floral Kingdom and the fynbos here is pristine (77 species within the reserve occur nowhere else on earth!). There are high mountain crags, deep valleys and a web of crystal-clear tributaries of the Palmiet River.

On a blistering False Bay day, join the class ditching students from Stellenbosch University lazing at Crystal Pools in the Steenberg River Gorge. It's an easy 45 minute hike in, and if laying gets too lazy for you, take on some of the jumps - anything from three to 15 metres.
