At Africa on Foot Camp in the Greater Kruger, walking safaris take place every morning, lasting about 2-3 hours. Each walk begins with a comprehensive demonstration on how to behave when encountering the animals. A walking safari allows you to take in the more intricate details of the bush. As you walk with the highly trained guides you will begin to see and learn more about the behaviour of the African wildlife.
The animals are especially active during the early mornings and you can expect to see giraffe, zebra, warthog, spotted hyena, baboon, hippo, impala, kudu, vervet monkey, waterbuck, wildebeest, bush baby, mongoose, duiker and steenbok. Birds that are regularly seen on the walks include vultures, owls, bee-eaters, rollers, eagles, bustards, hornbills, starlings and shrikes.
Game drives begin at 15h30 in the afternoon and traverses through the Klaserie reserve. At sundown, your guides will take you to a good spot where you can tuck into biltong (dried meat - a traditional South African snack) and sip on something cold.
On game drives you can get a lot closer to big game (within 5-10 meters). Keep an eye out for the two resident lion prides that reside in this area named the Ross and Giraffe pride. All game drives are conducted in open 4x4 Toyota Land Cruisers or Land Rovers. If you are keen on seeing the rest of the Big 5, this is definitely a possibility, especially if luck is on your side. As night falls, you can also get a glimpse of some of the more nocturnal animals like wild dog, honey badger, porcupine, aardvark, civet, caracal and serval.
