African Bush Getaway - Activities
Klaserie, Greater Kruger

The day starts off with an early morning game drive through the Klaserie Game Reserve, to hopefully catch a glimpse of some the wildlife preparing for the day.

Game Drives

The rising sun over the bush also offers amazing views and excellent photo opportunities. The guided 4x4 game drives are a great way to get closer to the wildlife of Africa.

The guide will follow the spoor and explain the behaviour of the animals, as nature will open you up to new heights of knowledge and interest. An optional guided bush walk is available in the late morning. It is a great way to stretch your legs and view some of the smaller creatures that are part of the ecosystem.

In the late afternoon, it is time to set out for an afternoon game drive in search of the two resident lion prides found in Klaserie Nature Reserve. The late afternoon/night drive is the best time to see all the big game come out of their lazy slumber as they prepare for the long evening. Thirsty animals often head towards water at this time, so many animals are on the move.

During the drive your guide will make a stop for some relaxing sundowners before heading slowly back to camp. Once the sun has gone down the nocturnal game are more likely to be seen as your guides use a flashlight to pinpoint the shine of their eyes. Look for hyenas as you follow their maniacal calls, and search for the stealthy leopard as it jumps down from a tree.

Bird Watching

Staying amidst the treetops will prove to very beneficial for bird lovers. Around 500 bird species are known to inhabit the Klaserie Nature Reserve, making nThambo Tree Camp a birders paradise.

Spend some time on your private balcony, high up in the trees with your binoculars for some grandstand bird spotting. Klaserie is renowned for its white-backed vultures, as it is the primary breeding area for this endangered species. Look to the skies to see them circling above a kill site. Lappet-faced, white-faced and hooded vultures are also found here.

Bush Dining

You have the option of enjoying a scrumptious breakfast in the bush or in the outdoor lounge area. If the weather permits, you can enjoy a fun traditional boma dinner with the other guests at the camp. A bush bar is also open in the evenings near the Boma, where you can sit around the fire under the stars, share stories and enjoy the sounds of the night.
