Avocados are now recognised globally as a superfood. They have wonderful health benefits and are packed with essential vitamins and minerals.
As such, there has been an increase in the demand for avocados, in fact avocados are Halls’ primary production and export supply. The increase in the demand for avocados has put immense strain on the avocado growing industry and its practices, and methods for more sustainable farming practices surrounding the production and harvesting of avocados has had to be put in place.
Long term sustainable farming practices have been and continue to be a primary concern for HL Hall & Sons (Halls). In maintaining this value while ensuring to meet the growing demand for avocados, Halls partnered with Du Roi in September 2017 to establish a nursery. As a result of the current increase of avocado consumption both locally and internationally, the nursery was developed with the intention of addressing the shortfall of avocado trees.
The nursery has three tunnels and produces small tree numbers, allowing for a sustainable increase in production for successive years. It ensures Halls and its grower partners have availability of avocado produce throughout the year and for the years to come given the avocado is Halls’ primary focus in fresh produce.
