Fraserburg is a little town located high on the Karoo plateau. It is chiefly interesting for its architecture. Victorian houses in this quaint town preserve their wrought-iron embellishments more modestly than the eccentric six-sided 'pepperbox' designed in 1861 by Reverend Carl Bamberger as his office.
The town has some of the coldest winters in South Africa, but the daytime Karoo temperatures can soar quite high. The area is well-known for sheep farming and its geological importance, as it is one of the sites of the Geological Society of South Africa.
Travellers looking for a Karoo adventure or holidaymakers in search of peace and quiet will definitely find their vices in Fraserburg and its interesting surroundings.
