On day 4 of your safe social distancing route, drive to Weenen Nature Reserve that has developed a reputation as a small but superbly appointed wildlife destination accessible for both day and overnight visitors.
Both black and white rhino have been introduced since the 5 000 hectare reserve was declared and other game includes giraffe, buffalo, red hartebeest, eland, zebra, klipspringer, ostrich, common reedbuck, and roan antelope.
From Weenen you head towards Colenso. Travelling into this part of Zululand and you will discover a true piece of paradise, tucked away along the banks of the mighty Tugela, or ‘Wild One’. It’s a place where you say goodbye to civilization as you crest a small mountain range and descend into the Tugela River Valley, where the Zingela Safari and River Company was established more than 30 years ago within the heart of 8,000ha of pure wilderness between Weenen and Colenso. Let the sound of the rushing river - literally at the foot of your tent - soothe away stress and tension as you listen to the birds and their chirping territorial battles.
You can go on a hike, do some fishing or brave the rapids of the Tugela river..
