De Hoop Nature Reserve lies 3 hours from Cape Town in the Overberg Region, just east of Cape Agulhas. The stunning coastline found here is referred to as Koppie Alleen (lone hill).
Expect sea, sand dunes, vlei (wetland) and fynbos upon your arrival. Your De Hoop Nature Reserve accommodation is rustic yet comfortable, with the most divine country-inspired decor. You will delight in the old Cape Dutch architecture with bottle-green window frames and white concrete chimneys.
The 36 000 hectares of De Hoop conservation area is a World Heritage Site, comprising a rich biodiversity. A 19 km vlei stretches across the reserve, which is on the Ramsar list of Wetlands of International Importance. You are welcome to take part in a two-hour marine walk where you can learn about the various marine life, and possibly see some whales as you go.
There are plenty of activities to keep you engaged at this nature reserve in the Western Cape, from stargazing to beach walks, hiking, picnics, birdwatching, boat rides, biking and relaxing at the De Hoop Spa.
Accommodation at De Hoop ranges from cottages and suites to campsite rondavels, with catered and self-catering options available. De Hoop Nature Reserve is an ideal location for families as there is even a specialised Kiddies Program at set times of the year.
