Rarely does a dorp’s name suit it as well as in the case of Darling: vineyards, olive groves and golden wheat fields engulf this vibrant village, making it difficult to believe that it once served as an SAAF airfield during the Second World War.
The man who put Darling firmly on the map is the famous satirist Pieter-Dirk Uys; or maybe we should say woman, as his legendary ‘Evita se Perron’ is named after his most unforgettable female persona. Darling is the ideal escape for guests wanting to experience the warm hospitality and interesting sights that South Africa is known for.
A delightful little country town, offering an array of wonderful attractions. The older part is blessed with regal Victorian houses, some of which are guest houses. The restaurant cum antique store cum cabaret venue opened in 1996 and the progressive dorp has not looked back since. Set amidst the Swartland’s wheat fields and vineyards, it is undeniably pretty, delightfully entertaining and certainly colourful in all senses of the word.
