Cape Point In Winter

Water Wings

Bird watching at Cape Point is sure not to disappoint. Petrels, shearwaters, skuas, albatrosses... those other great-winged monarchs of the sea skies remain unknown unless you go out to sea. A pelagic off Cape Point in winter will add a healthy number of ticks to your bird list, but is not for anyone with wobbly legs to see. Best in winter, the trip is a notable stomach churner.

Round Cape Point - Sea Kayak

A trip around Cape Point is sure to make you feel like a seafaring discoverer of old. Take care however, as the same dangers that threatened Dias and Da Gama back in the day still lurk - unpredictable winds, heavy swell and strong currents. This route is for experienced paddlers and should be attempted in perfect conditions only. The risks are rewarded with a breathtaking view of the continents southwestern most tip, with its deep gullies, steep cliffs and circling sea birds. (Platboom to Cape Point is 3,7 kilometres and Cape Point to Buffel's Bay is 5,5 kilometres.)
